Effective Communication

When I think about someone that has competent communication skills I think of my Assistant Principal. Whenever she is talking she is always assertive but yet positive and also listens when others voice their opinions. She lets you know that her door is always open and if you need to talk to her that line of communication is always there. She will be the first to back you if you have difficult parent and will support you to the fullest.
I would love to model her effective communications. I think that because of the way that she hold herself people are more willing to talk with her and get her opinions on certain situations. If I was ever to take a higher role in the school system I would want this relationship with my coworkers. For right now I try to model this example with my grade level and other coworkers.

I think that you make a really great point about your assistant principal when you say that you think that because of the way that she holds herself people are more willing to talk with her and get her opinions on certain matters. I think that an important part of effective communication is being able really listen to others and to convey your interest in what it is that they have to say. This way of being encourages reciprocal communication which leads to mutual understanding!

  2. Lauren,
Nice to meet you! I, too, admire my administrator's effective communication skills. They will even walk through the building every week, check our lesson plans and leave us a short note. In addition to that, sometimes they will walk around and leave us a note of the positive things they see us doing in our classrooms. It's very encouraging to know that even though they can't be with us often and see all the great things we are doing, they are making the effort to notice the positive and keep us motivated! As a fellow Kdg teacher, it can get so exhausting and having that short and sweet note of encouragement can lift my spirits, no matter what mood I am in! I actually save them all and put them in a binder called my "Teacher love notes". I also put letters and drawings from my students in it!
    Great post!
