After looking through the
code of ethics in the DEC and NAEYC articles I came across three that were very
meaningful to me:
· We shall serve as advocates for children with disabilities and their
families and for the professionals who serve them by supporting both policy and
programmatic decisions that enhance the quality of their lives. (DEC)
· We shall provide services and supports to children and families in a
fair and equitable manner while respecting families’ culture, race, language,
socioeconomic status, marital status, and sexual orientation. (DEC)
· To provide all children with experiences in a
language that they know, as well as support children in maintaining the use of
their home language and in learning English. (NAEYC)
The reason that they are so
meaningful to me is because they explain that no matter what differences or challenges
a student face we are advocates for them and their rights. I have many students
that have disabilities, Spanish as a first language, low economic status or
blended families. No matter what goes on at home I am their teacher in school
and my job is to teach them no matter what.

ReplyDeleteLauren,
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure to meet you through Walden's EDUC-6005 course. Our educational journey got off to a great start, then came the blog! You were the first to post my mistake about the blog set-up assignment. Your inspirational comments and discussions have kept me on track. You are that great teacher that your class needs. Good luck on your educational journey!
Dear Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to wish you luck in your Master's work. It has been a pleasure getting to know you professionally. Your commitment to the work you do is evident in your posts. I appreciate your decision to pursue a Master's in Early Childhood Studies. More early elementary teachers should follow your lead. Hopefully we will cross paths again soon!
Thanks,
Betsy Carlin
