  1. Louise Derman-Sparks quote about children from very low-income families rings very true for me. After spending some time working with children in and out of the school systems all who came from low income families I was able to see how unprepared many of these children were when entering school. Many had not been taught the basics in the home and there for were unable to learn more advance things that were being taught in the schools. It had nothing to do with their overall level of intelligence.
